Building Hope: Tiny Homes Initiative for London’s Homeless Veterans Aims to Raise $4 Million

Tiny Homes Project for London War Veterans Aims to Raise $4 Million

LONDON, ON – A project gives homes to homeless veterans in London. Organizers need to raise $4 million to build a village with 20 tiny homes. The Homes for Heroes Foundation leads the project. This Calgary charity builds similar homes for veterans in Canada.

Community Support and Fundraising Goals

Brad Field, the charity’s president and CEO, says the community is very kind. He states, “The community has been super welcoming. Everyone lends a hand. We’re excited.” The tiny homes measure less than 300 square feet and have basic features. They will be built on the grounds of St. Joseph’s Health Care London’s Parkwood Institute. The project welcomes its first residents in spring or early summer of 2026. The Homes for Heroes Foundation seeks funds from local companies and people. Field said, “We want to raise between four and five million dollars to finish the project.” A local team is starting to help with fundraising.

Historical Context and Support Infrastructure

St. Joseph’s Health Care London has helped veterans for a long time. The site first served soldiers from the Second World War. It now runs a care program for veterans. A clinic on the site helps people with stress injuries and post-traumatic stress. The clinic aids military workers and first responders.

Local data shows that less than 1% of homeless people are veterans. London has about 1,595 homeless people. In Canada, veterans make up roughly 4.4% of the homeless, based on 2018 federal data.

City Collaboration and Future Prospects

London’s Mayor, Josh Morgan, announced that the city works with St. Joseph’s and Homes for Heroes. The city receives funds from a federal housing accelerator fund that gave London $74 million in 2023 to boost affordable housing.

The tiny home village will shape a community for veterans. It will also give support with social workers and mental health aides.

This project takes a strong step in giving veterans safe homes and care in London. For more details and ways to support, visit the Homes for Heroes Foundation website.
